Eco-Friendly Paper Packaging for UK Fresh Food Retail
Driven by increasingly rigorous EU environmental protection and plastic restriction regulations, the whole UK fresh food retail market is accelerating the elimination of single-use plastic packaging across supermarket chains. Our long-term cooperative client is a professional supplier providing ready-to-eat salads and pre-cut fresh fruits for mainstream local supermarkets. For a long time, the brand fully adopted traditional rigid PP plastic containers for product packaging. As local green compliance standards keep upgrading, the original plastic packages could no longer meet regulatory requirements, which brought prominent plastic reduction pressure to their daily operation.
To resolve this compliance challenge thoroughly, we tailored practical double-sided PE coated paper containers with Custom PE Coated Paper. The finished containers are processed from premium Pe Coated Paper Roll, a high-quality type of food-safe Packaging Paperboard and sturdy Pe Coated Board. All raw materials are produced with pure food-grade virgin pulp, with evenly distributed double-sided PE coating to guarantee stable barrier performance. In actual packing procedures, salads and cut fruits are neatly arranged inside the paper containers, then fully wrapped and vacuum-sealed by thin plastic film.
Within this complete packaging structure, plastic materials are only limited to the outer sealing film, which takes up less than 15% of the total packaging weight. Compared with the former full-plastic PP containers, this paper-based solution cuts overall plastic consumption by more than 85%. The uniform double-sided PE coating effectively blocks liquid overflow and water seepage from juicy fruits and fresh salads. Besides, the paper containers possess outstanding structural stiffness, which makes them perfectly compatible with the client’s existing automatic packaging lines. They will not bend, soften or deform even after long-term storage inside low-temperature supermarket cold cabinets.
Up to now, this eco-friendly paper container packaging solution has been fully rolled out in all the client’s offline supermarket stores.
